Exploration Manager (Mining)
Location: North America (Canada/USA) – Hybrid / Remote with Site Travel
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Exploration Manager to lead and execute mineral exploration programs across North America. This role is responsible for developing exploration strategy, managing field programs, and advancing projects from early-stage exploration through resource definition.
You will work closely with executive leadership and technical teams to identify and develop high-quality exploration targets across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Target Generation
- Develop and execute regional and project-level exploration strategies.
- Generate and prioritize new exploration targets through:
- Geological interpretation
- Geochemical and geophysical data analysis
- Remote sensing and regional studies
- Evaluate acquisitions, joint ventures, and new project opportunities.
Exploration managers typically plan geological programs and manage daily exploration activities and strategy.
Exploration Program Management
- Plan and manage exploration campaigns including:
- Drilling programs (diamond/RC)
- Surface mapping and sampling
- Geophysics and geochemistry programs
- Manage exploration budgets and timelines.
- Coordinate contractors, drilling teams, and consultants.
- Oversee field logistics, safety, and environmental compliance.
Typical responsibilities include planning drilling campaigns and coordinating contractors and fieldwork.
Technical Leadership & Reporting
- Interpret geological, geophysical, and assay data.
- Maintain and oversee geological databases and QA/QC protocols.
- Deliver technical reports and presentations to senior leadership and investors.
- Contribute to resource estimation and technical disclosure (NI 43-101 / JORC where applicable).
Exploration leaders often supervise data collection, interpretation, and reporting of exploration results.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead and mentor geologists, technicians, and exploration staff.
- Build strong relationships with:
- Indigenous communities
- Landowners and regulators
- Local stakeholders
- Ensure health, safety, environmental, and social responsibility standards are met.
Exploration leaders commonly manage teams, contractors, and stakeholder relationships.
Qualifications
Required
- BSc in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related discipline.
- Typically 12–20+ years mineral exploration experience.
- Strong experience in base metals, precious metals, or critical minerals.
- Proven track record managing drilling programs and exploration teams.
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions in North America.
- Ability to travel frequently to exploration sites.
Preferred / Assets
- MSc or PhD in Geoscience or related discipline.
- Experience with NI 43-101 reporting and resource development.
- Experience advancing projects from grassroots to resource stage.
- Strong leadership and investor communication skills.
