About the Opportunity
Skyline Recruitment is partnering with a well-established, growth-focused construction group in Metro Vancouver to confidentially recruit a Director of Construction to oversee its expanding portfolio.
This organization operates across commercial tenant improvements, hospitality projects, high-end residential construction, and integrated specialty fabrication. With a strong reputation for quality, collaboration, and repeat clients, the company is entering its next stage of growth and is seeking a senior leader to strengthen operations, scale performance, and support strategic expansion.
Reporting directly to ownership, the Director of Construction will play a central role in aligning executive vision with on-the-ground execution. This individual will lead operational teams, drive accountability across projects, and contribute meaningfully to pipeline growth and long-term strategy.
This is a high-impact role suited for a proven construction leader capable of overseeing multiple divisions while helping position the company for larger, more complex projects in the $10M–$15M+ range.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will provide strategic and day-to-day leadership across commercial and residential operations, ensuring project delivery excellence while supporting business growth initiatives.
Working closely with ownership and senior leadership, you will guide operations managers and project teams, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and drive measurable performance improvements across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Operations Managers, Project Managers, and senior field leaders.
- Build leadership capacity and succession readiness across divisions.
- Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability frameworks.
- Foster a collaborative culture that promotes alignment, healthy conflict, and shared success.
Strategic Growth & Market Expansion
- Partner with ownership to grow the company’s project pipeline and market presence.
- Leverage industry relationships and networks to support new business opportunities.
- Represent the organization in client meetings, negotiations, and key project pursuits.
- Contribute to long-term growth strategy and operational scaling initiatives.
Operational & Portfolio Oversight
- Oversee full project lifecycle performance from preconstruction through closeout.
- Review and guide budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, procurement, and contract administration.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Implement and monitor KPIs to measure performance, profitability, and team health.
Financial Stewardship & Risk Management
- Provide oversight on estimating strategy, cost control, and margin protection.
- Support contract reviews, change management processes, and risk mitigation planning.
- Maintain visibility on capacity planning and resource forecasting across the portfolio.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Champion a safety-first culture across all job sites.
- Ensure compliance with BC Building Code, municipal regulations, and WorkSafeBC standards.
- Strengthen QA/QC practices to reduce deficiencies and protect project outcomes.
Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Drive process improvements and operational efficiencies across divisions.
- Champion effective use of construction management tools such as Procore or similar platforms.
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of progressive construction experience, including senior operational leadership.
- Demonstrated success scaling teams, improving performance, and growing revenue.
- Experience overseeing commercial TI, hospitality, and/or high-end residential projects.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to contribute to strategic planning and growth.
- Established industry relationships and comfort supporting business development efforts.
- Proven mentorship and leadership skills — capable of developing future senior leaders.
- Deep understanding of budgeting, scheduling, contracts, procurement, and risk management.
- Strong knowledge of local permitting processes, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
- Experience working alongside specialty trades or fabrication environments is an asset.
- Highly collaborative, emotionally intelligent leader who can align stakeholders and drive execution.
- Self-motivated and capable of operating at both strategic and hands-on levels.
